Recently, PharmaSUG China 2026 was successfully held at Radisson Collection Hotel, Yangtze Shanghai. The conference focused on key topics including the implementation of AI technology scenarios, R/Python/SAS programming, Rshiny development, and compliant R submissions. The conference featured Hands-On Workshop (HOW) sessions. Hu Yunqing, Technical Support Engineer at Tri-I Biotech, delivered a presentation titled Getting Started with Positron: Installation, AI, Skills and MCP Integration. Twenty workstations were provided on-site, enabling participants to follow the instructor for hands-on practice and experience the full capabilities of Positron, the next-generation IDE for data science. The presentation drew numerous clinical programming and biostatistics practitioners. The session maintained active on-site interaction, followed by in-depth technical exchanges after the workshop, generating many innovative ideas.

The presentation elaborated on the full-scenario implementation capabilities of Positron. In terms of AI empowerment, Positron features a flexible and open AI integration architecture. It allows users to connect their own LLM accounts and private API keys, and leverages Posit Assistant to realize intelligent code generation, program debugging and data analysis. Tri-I Biotech also provided exclusive benefits for attendees: participants without private LLM accounts could access large language models free of charge via accounts offered by Tri-I Biotech during the workshop.Supported by the built-in Skills framework, the platform enables quick tool invocation and supports customized Skills development tailored to clinical data science scenarios. Standardized analytical workflows can be encapsulated to greatly improve the reusability of clinical programming.

In addition, the instructor demonstrated the value of integration between Positron and the MCP (Package Manager) server. MCP enables unified management, version control and automatic dependency validation for R and Python packages on Package Manager, effectively resolving conflicts in research and development environments.The platform connects the full pipeline from local development to production release. Developed outputs can be deployed to Posit Connect and Posit Cloud with one click, forming an end-to-end workflow: AI – assisted programming – analytical development – application deployment.
